Baptism at Nanaimo Alliance Church

Why be baptized?
Baptism was commanded by Jesus and has been practiced since the early church in obedience to Him. It signifies the passing away of the old sinful person and the rising up of a new creation in Christ. It is a public declaration of faith, much like a wedding ceremony is a public declaration of love and commitment.

Can I be baptized?
Baptism is for all who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that he died to pay the penalty for their sins, and rose again from the dead. Following Jesus means turning away from sin (repentance), accepting His forgiveness, and submitting to His leadership in all areas of life.

What do I do?
If you would like to be baptized, congratulations on obeying Jesus’ teaching! Let the office know you are interested in baptism. You can do this through email, letter, or phone call, including pertinent contact information. A church board member will contact you in order to interview you to confirm that you are ready. Both the date and location are flexible and can be worked out between you, the person baptizing you, and the church board member assigned to you, who will then coordinate with NAC staff. You may prepare to share your story at your baptism about how you came to know Jesus and the impact he has made in your life. This is a great opportunity to let everyone know why you made this decision, but this is not required. Then, simply enjoy making public your dedication to Jesus by being baptized.

Membership at Nanaimo Alliance Church

Why become a member?
While our status as a registered charity requires that we have members, this is not the primary reason to become a member. The Bible says that all followers of Jesus are members of His universal Church and are to devote themselves to full involvement in a local church. Becoming a member is a public declaration of devotion to a church family. It is encouraging to the congregation to have someone join them and it is encouraging to the candidate to be accepted and welcomed.

Can I become a member?
Anyone who has been baptized as a believer, who is committed to following Jesus, and who aligns with the principles and beliefs of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, can become a member of NAC.

How do I become a member?
Notify the church office through email, letter, or phone call about your interest in membership and supply any required contact information. A member of the NAC board will contact you and interview you. You will also be introduced to information about our beliefs and what is required of being a member. You will then be given the opportunity to proceed. Once the interview process is over, the board member will coordinate with staff, and you will be welcomed into membership at a Sunday morning service.
